The international conference Water Security is in the series of seminars DAAS (Diderot Advanced Academic Seminars) and launching issue of FAP of the International Francophone Institute (IFI). The conference was co-organized by IFI in collaboration with domestic and foreign partners: Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Literature in Aix-Marseille (CIELAM), Aix-Marseille University; Institute for Africa and Middle East Studies (Vietnam).

Water is a life-sustaining resource and the source of humankind existence. In the next centuries, water security will become a central issue for all nations. Water security concerns are related to almost every aspect of socio-economic life, including economy (especially agriculture, forestry and fishery), national security, sovereignty and territorial aspects, water transport and migration, climate change, environmental pollution. The water security problems cannot be solved without applying an interdisciplinary approach based on international law, management strategies and policies, development and protection of international legislative procedures as well as multilateral commitments.

In addition, it is necessary to emphasize the importance of community awareness, the dynamics of social organizations, as well as the commitments and responsibilities of the authorities and multilateral institutions. The significance of education and research institutions cannot be understated, either. Vietnam is a country with a dense river system and abundant and diversified water resources. At the same time, Vietnam is one of the ten countries forecasted to be affected by climate change most. In recent times, the economic activities of neighboring countries as well as the territorial disputes in the East Sea have raised a number of complicated problems.

In this context, IFI and a number of Vietnamese research institutions, organized the conference Water Security to provide a realistic, comprehensive and reliable picture of this highly important issue which is also the basis for building a comprehensive strategy to protect sustainable water resources and secure territorial integrity for its bright future on the national, regional and global levels.

Topics of interest for submission include, but are not limited to:

• Identification of water security issues in Vietnam and the world

• Water and non-traditional safety issues

• Economic development and water security

• Water transport and migration

• Ocean and island in global geopolitical context

• New technologies in water resources exploitation and conservation
