Title: From the estimation to the prediction of available bandwidth in  IEEE 802.11 based wireless ad hoc networks
Abstract: The wireless ad hoc networks have experienced rapid development during the last time. This technology envisages a high mobility of nodes, a dynamic network topology, a shared communication medium. It is very challenging to provision,  in these conditions a Quality of Service (QoS) which are more and more needed for some recent applications (VoIP, real-time systems, etc..)
The topic of this seminar focuses on methods to obtain information on  available resources at the radio links in IEEE 802.11 based wireless adhoc networks. These informations are necessary to establish QoS mechanisms. The difficulty of this operation is due to the dynamism of the network, the interference effects, the variable load of the network, etc..   Several methods to estimate the available bandwidth of a radio link will be presented  along with their advantages and limitations. The major drawback of estimation methods is that they use the current results for the following period. Very few approaches to predict the available bandwidth is known. We propose a new prediction method based on the approach Improved Available Bandwidth (IAB) which seeks to minimize the error in estimating the available bandwidth and at the same time minimizing the computational complexity.
