Abstract : As a native of Vietnam, Linda Lê is a writer of the « in-between ». Her works, denoting her double culture, are that of exile. This ambivalence nourishes her literature by the multiplicity of meaning and the flexible shift of one word/expression to another, from one image to another, from reality to fiction. Is it a compensation for the absence and loss caused by exile ? The question will be answered in this study on the polyphonic novel Lame de fond, a key book by Linda Lê, which will show how the Vietnamese part and the French part are intertwined, first in the construction of the characters in crossed exiles and then by the style of multiple writing.

Keywords : Exile, In-between, Duality, Absence, Loss.
