Abstract : The modernization of Vietnamese literature in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century occurred in two ways. The first way, which led to the birth of the literature in quốc ng (literally "national language", the name given to the romanized writing system), can be described by a simplified scheme: translation - imitation - creation. The second way is to write works directly in French. Despite its importance, Vietnamese literature in French is still relatively unknown. This text deals with the case of Nguyễn Ái Quốc, who is to be considered one of the first francophone writers of Vietnam.
